On Friday, the Supreme Court issued an opinion on the Second Amendment, ruling that bump stocks are not machine guns.

"The question is, whether a bump stock is considered a machine gun. A bump stock is an accessory to a semi-automatic rifle that enables the user to rapidly engage the trigger and fire quickly and converts the rifle into what many consider a machine gun. However, the Supreme Court holds that it does not."

In a 6-3 vote in the final ruling of the day, Garland v. Cargill, the bump stock case, the Supreme Court ruled that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) exceeded its statutory authority by issuing a rule that classifies a bump stock as a machine gun under statutory law."

Justice Clarence Thomas read the opinion, and collectively, Justices Thomas, Roberts, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Alito, and Barrett formed the 6-count vote.
