When asked at the barber shop if he the United States could end all taxation, Trump referenced the nation's "economic policies of the late 19th century, when funds from income tax were replaced with new trade tariffs."
"It had all tariffs — it didn’t have an income tax. Now we have income taxes, and we have people that are dying. They’re paying tax, and they don’t have the money to pay the tax."
The President said he would "introduce tariffs on the imports of foreign goods ranging from 10 percent to 20 percent with and a 60 percent levy on items shipped from China," per The Telegraph.
"Trump threatened a 200 percent tariff on tractor manufacturer John Deere if it moves some jobs to Mexico."
The remarks were celebrated like wildfire on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Rogan O'Handley, the conservative pundit nicknamed online as "DC Draino" said in a post:
"If [Trump] does this, he will go down in American history as the greatest President since George Washington."
