Per the Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency's website:
"[The agency] requires working with the numerous local response agencies, governments, and volunteer resource agencies to develop effective all hazards plans to ensure that Lowndes County and its citizens are adequately prepared for any type of disaster that may affect our local communities."
NBC News reported: "There have been at least 116 deaths as a result of the storm. A third of them were reported in North Carolina.
Western North Carolina has been hit by devastating floods, with entire communities under several feet of water. At least 35 people have died in Buncombe County, which contains the city of Asheville.
Helene made landfall Thursday night in Florida's Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane. Though the storm has mostly dissipated, its leftovers combined with a front could mean more rainfall for parts of the already saturated central Appalachians.
Power is being restored to some of the affected areas, but more than 2 million customers remain without electricity across several states."
